It has been raining – misting – leaking – spiting for the last three days.

We really need the rain and my weeds are enjoying the drink. They actually said hi to me this morning and thanked me for the new plants to look at and eventually overwhelm.

The weeds are the undisputed winners of the battle for my lawn. I think my relationship with grass is officially over. I can’t blame it for leaving me after what I did to it last year. I promised a new well springing forth unlimited amounts of water and I gave it an occasional spritzing of chlorine laced city water.

And by occasionally I mean once a week for a month.

The problem was my water bill and when push came to shove I abandoned my lawn to fend for itself. With the drought and sneak attack of the winter weeds it went down with barely a whimper. To seal its fate, I started adding up the cost to keep nature out of my lawn and realized I was fighting a losing battle.

Good riddance I say!

Saturday, I purchased Azaleas, Hostas, Lariape, and three flowering crab trees. My plan is to replace my entire front lawn with raised beds with patches of lawn acting as pathways.I was able to complete one of three beds and it is going to look amazing.

Now if it would only stop raining so I can get the rest of the plants in the ground before the weeds climb the pots and force them into submission.

I would step in any try and stop them but they scare me.
